Our client is seeking an experienced In-House Legal Counsel to join their organisation on a part‑time fixed‑term basis. This role offers the opportunity to provide strategic legal support across a broad range of commercial, regulatory, and compliance matters within a purpose‑led and membership‑focused environment.
The successful candidate will work closely with stakeholders across the organisation, advising on contracts, data protection, governance, risk management, and legal compliance while helping to balance commercial opportunity with effective risk mitigation.
This role is based in London with hybrid working arrangements available.

Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice and guidance across a broad range of commercial and operational matters
- Draft, review, negotiate, and advise on contracts with suppliers, funders, partners, members, and external stakeholders
- Support organisational compliance with relevant legislation, regulatory requirements, and internal policies
- Advise on data protection law, privacy obligations, and information governance matters
- Deliver training and guidance to colleagues on legal and compliance‑related topics
- Support risk management activities by identifying and mitigating legal risks
- Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders to provide pragmatic and commercially focused legal solutions
- Liaise with external legal advisers and manage associated legal budgets where required
- Contribute to governance and policy development activities
- Ensure legal documentation and processes are maintained effectively and accurately
Requirements
Essential Skills and Experience
- Qualified solicitor in the United Kingdom with current practising certification through the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) or equivalent
- Demonstrable post‑qualification legal experience across a broad commercial or in‑house legal remit
- Strong understanding of contract law, regulatory compliance, and data protection legislation
- Experience advising on legal risk and governance matters
- Ability to provide practical and commercially focused legal advice to non‑legal stakeholders
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to work independently and manage a varied workload effectively
- Excellent drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Experience within the charity, non‑profit, arts, culture, membership, or public sector environments
- Experience delivering legal training and compliance guidance
- Knowledge of fundraising, grant funding, or partnership agreements
- Experience working within hybrid or fast‑paced organisational settings
