Regional Public Relations Officer & Clerk to Governors

Based at Hylands School, Chelmsford, Essex. Working in the region’s primary schools with hybrid working options. Expected to travel to the Essex primary schools in line with business requirements; travel cost will be remunerated per the Trust’s travel policy.
Role: Part‑time, 32.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday 08:30‑15:30 with flexibility for late afternoon meetings. Availability must support a flexible working pattern.
As part of a dual role, you will promote the professional image of our academies and provide procedural guidance to our Local Governing Bodies.
Key Responsibilities
- Public Relations, Marketing & Communications
- Act as the brand gatekeeper for all public‑facing documents, ensuring academies’ brand standards are adhered to.
- Map out and deliver the academies’ marketing strategy across the academic year (events, admissions, open days).
- Manage the academies’ social media platforms and maintain website content, ensuring safeguarding and statutory requirements.
- Collaborate with local communities to increase cohesion.
- Work with the Director of Opportunity and SLT to identify funding sources and prepare bids.
- Manage lettings at each academy as day‑to‑day point of contact.
- Governance and Clerking
- Advise Local Governing Bodies on core functions, regulatory framework, governance legislation, and procedural matters.
- Prepare focused agendas, coordinate papers, ensure meetings are quorate, and draft accurate minutes.
- Ensure statutory policies are in place and updated, and update GIAS websites.
- Maintain up‑to‑date records of governors, including expiry of terms and pecuniary interests.
Essential Experience & Skills
- Strong experience in communications, copywriting or public relations.
- Experience carrying out complex administrative tasks.
- Working knowledge of marketing procedures and practices.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, strong listening skills.
- High level of ICT proficiency (design packages, Google Suite, MS Office, website updates).
- Ability to plan, organise, prioritise workloads under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Excellent attention to detail, aligned with brand standards.
- English and Maths at GCSE/Standard Grade or equivalent (Grade 4/C or above).
