Senior Fire Engineer

Responsibilities

  • Stay informed about emerging technologies and innovations in fire engineering and share updates with the team.
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of relevant fire legislation, codes, and standards, ensuring all work aligns with current requirements.
  • Oversee engineering projects, manage resources and tasks to meet time and budget objectives.
  • Formulate fire strategies and provide guidance to clients on fire safety regulations and industry standards.
  • Develop performance‑based fire engineering solutions tailored to project needs.
  • Support the professional development of the team and promote skills‑sharing initiatives.
  • Prepare fee proposals, engage in business development initiatives, and expand the client network.
  • Identify and nurture business prospects with new and existing clients, promoting the company’s services.
  • Participate in recruitment activities, including interviewing and decision‑making for new hires.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across all offices and support all project levels.
  • Operate within company terms, conditions, policies, and quality assurance systems.
  • Ensure strict compliance with health and safety regulations and proper use of protective equipment on site.
  • Undertake additional duties within the competence of the Senior Engineer Grade as reasonably required.

Qualifications

  • Master’s or bachelor’s degree in Fire Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Minimum five years’ proven experience in fire engineering consultancy.
  • Strong knowledge of UK fire safety legislation and design codes.
  • Specialist knowledge in a fire engineering domain such as smoke analysis, evacuation, structural, radiation, etc.
  • Proficiency with fire engineering software packages such as PyroSIM, FDS, Pathfinder, or similar.
  • Membership of the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) and/or Institute of Fire Safety Managers (IFSM). Working towards chartership.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite and Bluebeam.
  • Excellent report writing and presentation skills for client meetings.
  • Chartered Engineer with the Engineering Council UK or in progress, or equivalent qualification.
  • Experience with NFPA and IBC codes and standards.

  • Strong relationship‑building skills with clients, architects, developers, contractors, and approval authorities.
  • Good problem‑solving and contingency planning skills, with the ability to produce innovative and practical solutions quickly.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Right to work in the UK.
