Job Introduction
We are looking for volunteers to become school governors! School governors make a real difference to young people in communities across Lincolnshire, and you will be joining the largest volunteer workforce in the country. We are looking for more people who are passionate and committed to education and young people. Governors support and challenge the school’s leadership team to drive school improvement. Governors don’t get involved in the day‑to‑day running of the school; they empower their leaders to implement the governance strategic plan.
Responsibilities
- Support and challenge the school’s leadership team to drive school improvement.
- Govern the school without getting involved in day‑to‑day operations; empower leaders to implement the governance strategic plan.
- Attend around four governor activities per term, including meetings (usually in the afternoon and evening) and monitoring visits in school hours.
Qualifications & Eligibility
- Must be over 18 years old.
- Willingness to share skills and expertise with schools.
- Eligibility checks apply, including DBS and Section 128 clearance within 21 days of appointment.
Commitment & Support
Training, support and information is provided to governors. Governors are entitled to time off work to undertake governance duties (please speak to your employer) and may be able to claim expenses, subject to the governing board’s policy.

Fluency Duty
In accordance with Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016, the ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post.
