The post is an Obstetrics post with a requirement to participate in on‑call duties (total on call 1:11 with an obstetric hot week 1:12). Day‑time commitments include antenatal clinic and labour ward sessions.

About us

LTHTR is a teaching hospital serving a local population of 450,000 across Greater Preston, Chorley and South Ribble. The Trust has approximately 4,500 births annually and a level three neonatal unit. We provide Bluebell and Rainbow clinics plus services for high‑risk pregnancies having recently become the Maternal Medicine Centre for Lancashire and South Cumbria. We are privileged to work closely with a nationally recognised, award‑winning team of midwives dedicated to improving the birth experience for all women. We offer all four choices for place of birth. There are midwifery‑led birth units at both Royal Preston Hospital and at Chorley & South Ribble Hospital and a 12‑bed obstetric unit in Royal Preston Hospital. In gynaecology we provide services in benign gynaecology, early pregnancy, endometriosis, urogynaecology, ambulatory, menopause, paediatric, endocrine disorders, vulval conditions and termination of pregnancy. Preston is one of the four bases for Manchester university medical students. We provide academic and pastoral support to over 300 medical students in their clinical years 3, 4 and 5.

Qualifications

  • Full GMC Registration and Licence to Practice
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Must be entered on the Specialist Register (or entry within 6 months)
  • ATSM in Advanced Labour Ward Practice
  • Teaching Qualification e.g., PG Cert
  • Medical leadership
  • Maternal Medicine ATSM
  • Advanced antenatal care ATSM

Experience and Skills

  • Experience of working in NHS
  • Ability to deal with all common obstetric and gynaecological emergency presentations
  • Teaching Experience (undergraduate and postgraduate)
  • Obstetric USS skills
