People Governance & Accountability Senior Manager
Location: London – Cardiff – UK Remote
Salary: ~£85,000 + Incentive Awards tied to performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the day‑to‑day delivery of Monzo’s accountability regimes (SMCR, IAF/SEAR) and ensure key processes, controls, timelines and outputs meet high standards.
- Run business‑as‑usual activities across fit and proper assessments, certification, accountability processes, governance documentation and regulatory reporting.
- Coordinate day‑to‑day work across the team, keeping priorities clear and delivery on track.
- Act as a trusted subject‑matter expert on accountability and people governance, supporting stakeholders to navigate complexity and make risk‑based decisions.
- Build and evolve the broader people governance framework, including people‑related risk, controls, decision‑making and organisational change.
- Identify and deliver improvements to processes, controls and tooling for greater efficiency and scalability.
- Partner closely with teams across People, Legal, Compliance, Risk & Controls and the wider business to deliver decisions and keep work moving.
- Support audit, assurance and regulatory engagement with high‑quality evidence, papers, reporting and process management.
- Use data and insight to spot themes, identify risks, prioritise improvements and shape the team’s operational roadmap.
- Collaborate with the People Governance & Accountability Lead on higher‑risk issues, strategic changes and the continued evolution of global frameworks.

- Operational ownership – Keep the core frameworks running effectively, meeting deadlines and delivering high‑quality outputs.
- Continuous improvement – Automate manual work, evolve cadences and build scalable workflows that reduce risk and friction.
- Cross‑functional delivery – Ensure governance requirements are clear, practical and implemented across the business.
- Risk and judgement – Apply thoughtful, risk‑based judgement to support pragmatic decision‑making.
- Insight and prioritisation – Use data, reporting and feedback to prioritise focus areas and shape the function’s evolution.
Qualifications
- Strong experience in a regulated environment, ideally in governance, compliance, risk or legal.
- Hands‑on experience with SMCR in a UK dual‑regulated (FCA/PRA) firm and familiarity with IAF/SEAR or other accountability regimes.
- Ability to translate regulatory or policy requirements into clear, practical processes, training and guidance.
- Experience planning and leading end‑to‑end projects, driving delivery and keeping work on track.
- Collaborative and thoughtful approach, adept at bringing stakeholders together to solve problems.
- Strong communicator, capable of writing governance papers, improving processes and articulating nuanced decisions.
- Comfortable building relationships with senior stakeholders and presenting in senior forums.
- Ability to work independently and adapt to changing priorities, focusing quickly on higher‑risk areas when needed.
- Passion for building and improving ways of working, spotting gaps and creating reliable processes.
- Proficiency in using data and judgement to make pragmatic recommendations in complex scenarios.
- Thrives in a fast‑moving environment balancing control, pace and practicality.
