An industry-leading transport and infrastructure consultancy is seeking a Principal Transport Planner to join their Development Planning team in Leeds. This role offers an excellent opportunity to take on a leadership position, managing high-profile projects and providing strategic transport planning advice to clients across the public and private sectors.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation and delivery of transport assessments, travel plans, and transport strategies for a wide range of development projects.
  • Provide technical leadership on complex transport planning matters, ensuring high-quality outputs.
  • Manage client relationships and act as the primary point of contact for development-related transport planning projects.
  • Oversee and contribute to junction capacity assessments and modelling using software such as Junctions 10 (PICADY/ARCADY), LinSig, and TRICS.
  • Take responsibility for project management, ensuring work is delivered on time, within budget, and to a high standard.
  • Lead engagement with local authorities, stakeholders, and developers, supporting planning applications and transport strategies.
  • Mentor and develop junior team members, providing technical guidance and career support.
  • Contribute to business development, including tender preparation and identifying new opportunities.
  • Support public inquiries, appeals, and expert witness work when required.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography, or a related field.
  • Proven track record of managing projects and teams, with the ability to lead on technical delivery.
  • Strong understanding of UK transport planning policies, development control processes, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Proficiency in transport modelling software, including Junctions 10, LinSig, and TRICS.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing reports, presenting to clients, and attending public consultations.
  • Ability to develop new business opportunities and contribute to company growth.
