We have an exciting opportunity for the right motivated individual to join our team at Akenside Ward.
Akenside ward is a 10 bed functional assessment and treatment ward for older peoples. It is about to move to St. Nicholas Hospital to a newly refurbished ward.
The post is to provide social, recreational and meaningful activities to our patients during their hospital stay. The successful applicant will work with the nursing and wider multidisciplinary team to provide group and individual sessions.

Main duties of the job
- Contribute to an activity based culture on the ward.
- Work alongside nurses and occupational therapy staff to plan and implement sessions arising from treatment plans.
- Plan, implement, evaluate and record social, recreational and leisure activities.
- Contribute to the ongoing overall risk assessment within the multidisciplinary team.

Job responsibilities
The post holder's focus will be to work towards creating an activity-based culture on the inpatient ward environment. They will both provide and coordinate a range of social, recreational and leisure activities within the ward.
The post holder will also undertake designated tasks from both nursing and Occupational Therapy treatment plans for identified individuals.
The post holder will receive regular supervision from an identified supervisor within the ward team.
In conjunction with qualified nursing and Occupational Therapy staff, coordinate a timetable of activities on each area to be implemented by self and support worker staff.
Work with individual service users on delegated areas of their treatment plans to help facilitate recovery.
Contribute to the monitoring, evaluation and modification of service user interventions in order to measure progress and ensure effectiveness.
Develop and demonstrate an understanding of the Occupational Therapy process, particularly activity analysis and graded interventions.
Contribute to the overall ongoing risk assessment carried out by the MDT.
Ensure an appropriate environment and equipment is available to carry out identified activities.

Knowledge and Experience
- Experience that can demonstrate skills acquired in a care setting.
- Knowledge of a range of leisure/creative technical activities.
Education and qualification
- Formal qualifications eg. NVQ Level III or willingness to work towards, or equivalent level of knowledge.
Skills and Competencies
- Recent or current experience of working in a mental health setting.
- Experience that can demonstrate leadership skills and ability to self-motivate.
- Experience of training others in a task or skill.
- Involvement in group based interventions.
