This role offers the opportunity to contribute to the growth of a new regional studio while being fully supported by established teams in Glasgow and St Albans.

You will be part of a collaborative, design-led practice delivering complex public sector projects across the UK, with a particular focus on education work. We are especially interested in candidates with Department for Education schools experience to support a number of upcoming projects.

About the role

Holmes Miller is an award-winning architectural practice delivering education, sport and leisure, residential, justice and civic projects across the UK.

Our work includes new build and refurbishment schools, leisure centres, community wellbeing hubs, residential developments and justice sector facilities. The Project Architect role is suited to individuals who enjoy taking responsibility for well-resolved design solutions and supporting projects from early design through to construction.

You will work as part of a project team, contributing to design development, technical coordination and project delivery through construction. The role offers a broad and balanced exposure across RIBA work stages, with responsibilities aligned to experience and the opportunity to take increasing ownership of project delivery under Director oversight.

While based in Leeds, you will work closely with colleagues in Glasgow and St Albans, benefiting from shared technical standards, mentoring support and cross-studio collaboration.

Studio environment

Our studios operate as collaborative and supportive teams where staff are encouraged to take ownership of their work and contribute positively to project delivery.

Project Architects engage directly with clients, consultants and contractors, gaining hands‑on experience across design development, technical coordination and construction stage support. For those joining the Leeds studio, this role offers the opportunity to help shape working practices and studio culture from an early stage, supported by an established leadership team and wider practice resources.

Who we are looking for

We are seeking a Project Architect who is comfortable working across the full project lifecycle, from early design stages through to on-site delivery.

Experience of delivering Department for Education school projects is highly desirable, and candidates with demonstrable involvement in the design and delivery of education schemes will be prioritised. Applicants should be able to demonstrate experience in design development, technical design and detailing, and working collaboratively with consultants and contractors.

Experience within education, sport and leisure, residential, justice or wider public sector projects is advantageous. Strong communication, coordination and organisational skills are important, along with an ability to work constructively within a supportive studio environment.

Role focus

Project Architects will typically take responsibility for the day-to-day delivery of projects under Director oversight. This includes leading aspects of design development, coordinating consultant inputs, managing technical delivery and supporting projects through construction. As the Leeds studio grows, Project Architects will play an active role in shaping project teams and supporting less experienced colleagues.
