About The Role

As part of the evolution of our strategic projects, you could join our new Proactive Control Centre which will focus on asset performance, primarily using diagnostics to help us choose the best course of action and future preventative actions. By joining this team, you could support the formulation of our ongoing environmental commitments to avoid ongoing pollutions. You will be part of the continued drive for change and will ultimately make a significant difference to the communities we serve.

What You Will Be Responsible For

Analyse data and information from a variety of sources, diagnose asset performance issues, schedule remedial work and recommend actions to prevent future events, and modify operations to increase effectiveness and efficiency of the business. Take action to ensure timely intervention to maintain the functionality of the Company’s assets, deliver reductions in pollution, environmental incidents and water incidents, and facilitate an increase in operational productivity.

Your role will be crucial to our business objective to meet zero pollutions by 2040. You will receive out-of-hours incident support and will be expected to assist the incident support team as required.

  • 3 days on, 7 days off
  • 4 days on, 7 days off
  • 3 nights on, 7 days off
  • 4 nights on, 7 days off
  • Includes standby shifts (details provided at interview)
  • Occasional requirement to work from the Falmer office
  • Fast‑paced, reactive working environment

What You’ll Bring To The Role

  • Technically minded with good to extensive knowledge of wastewater and water treatment assets (Desirable).
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to formulate and present proposals.
  • Willing to gain a working knowledge of Company systems.
  • Gather the necessary knowledge to facilitate systems integration.
  • Be Innovative, with a ‘can do’ approach.
  • Identify poor performing wastewater assets and take preventative or corrective action.
  • Pre‑empt site failure and resolve in a planned not reactive manner.
  • Track, manage and mitigate site performance parameters that affect site risk.
  • Contribute to improved serviceability and CMEX scores.
  • Make performance data available to Assets, catchment inspectors, county sewerage engineers and external contractors and consultants.
  • Assist in the development of business cases to support strategic investment in systems and processes when required.
  • Support other areas of the business with analytical abilities and system and site knowledge.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Resolve system problems at own discretion.
  • Ability to work independently or in a group with minimal direction.
  • Able to work under pressure, and to prioritise activities.
  • A Willingness to adapt, learn new skills and new ways of doing things.

Skills & Competencies

  • A relevant Degree (demonstrating high analytical ability) or relevant Experience in the Water Industry (Desirable).
  • Excellent analytical and numerical skills.
  • Database and Spreadsheet expertise.
  • Advanced data handling and reporting skills.
  • Strong process focus.
  • Strong Wastewater asset function and process knowledge (Desirable).
  • Reliable and consistent high quality output.
  • Prioritising and able to work within tight deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Logical, methodical and able to think around problems.
  • Willing and able to get involved.
  • Extensive system awareness and data extraction ability.
  • Work closely with Southern Water’s internal functions and external providers/service partners to ensure a collaborative and innovative approach to proactive interventions.
