Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint to a junior / senior clinical teaching fellow post within Cardiology. This is a 12-month fixed term post which is split 50/50 between clinical cardiology and undergraduate teaching.

Eligibility

The post is ideal for those who have completed their foundation years training and are looking to further develop their clinical experience in cardiology as well as having dedicated time to develop and deliver undergraduate teaching in cardiology to students from UCL Medical School.

Clinical Commitments

Ward work under the supervision of a consultant and ward registrar, including management of patients with cardiac disease in a busy district hospital. There is no on‑call commitment with this post.

Teaching Commitments

Remaining 50% of the time dedicated to delivery and further development of the cardiology teaching programme for UCL medical students under the supervision of undergraduate teaching leads. This includes formal and informal teaching, development of the timetable and the opportunity for audit / QI projects in teaching.

Institutional Context

Royal Free represents the largest stand‑alone PCI in London with off‑site surgical cover provided by surgeons at Barts, with strong links including a regular JCC meeting. There is a full invasive and interventional programme including diagnostic angiography.

Royal Free is a designated London centre for the National Pulmonary Hypertension service, specialising in the treatment of patients suffering from scleroderma‑associated pulmonary hypertension. It has strong links with the academic department of rheumatology, a unique cardiac clinic for patients with carcinoid, a joint appointment with the National Amyloid Centre, and collaborations with clinical biochemistry (designated centre for familial hyperlipidaemia).
