Role Overview
The Cellular Pathology Department is seeking a motivated and versatile individual with a positive ‘can do’ attitude to join our professional and friendly team as a Departmental Secretary. The role supports an efficient, high quality Cellular Pathology service through a range of secretarial and administrative activities. Medical terminology is an advantage.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide efficient secretarial support to Consultant Histopathologists, including entry of diagnostic reports and typing of medical correspondence
- Work methodically, paying close attention to detail in all tasks
- Troubleshoot queries and manage the administrative mailbox
- File and retrieve blocks and slides for referral to specialist centres
- Support the delivery of a high quality, responsive and comprehensive Cellular Pathology service for the trust and its users
- Liaise with Pathologists to ensure the provision of a quality secretarial service
- Respond to telephone calls from hospital staff, GPs, and other Cellular Pathology departments at other Trusts
- Work with laboratory management and technical team to ensure compliance with regulatory standards, including ISO 15189, the Human Tissue Authority (HTA), and screening programmes
- Assist the Cellular Pathology team in meeting departmental and trust KPIs
- Work safely in accordance with trust health and safety policy and departmental policies
- Comply with clinical governance and risk management policies and complete all mandatory training as per trust guidelines
- Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills
- liaise closely with departmental technical and clinical staff to ensure that all work is performed to required standards
- Provide approved departmental information to other healthcare professionals in a professional and competent manner, using verbal and electronic communication
- Establish effective and collaborative working relationships with key staff
- Organise and prioritise daily duties to provide a quality service
- Accountably maintain high personal standards of work
- Work safely in accordance with department and Trust health and safety and risk management policies
- Maintain a high standard of confidentiality and comply with relevant Trust policies
