Marie Curie continues to deliver compassionate end-of-life care across Plymouth in partnership with University Hospitals Plymouth, supporting patients at Derriford Hospital and Mount Gould Hospital. Our teams play a vital role in providing comfort, dignity and person-centred care to patients and their families at a crucial time. As this valued service continues to grow, we’re now looking to expand our team with dedicated Senior Nurses who have experience in palliative and/or end-of-life care and who share our commitment to delivering compassionate, high-quality support.

Position Details

  • Role: Band 6 Senior Nurse
  • Contract: Full-time Permanent
  • Shifts: Primarily long days, but flexibility to cover nights and weekends when needed
  • Location: University Hospitals Plymouth
  • Salary: Marie Curie Clinical Pay Scale – Band 6 (£39,959 – £48,117) with enhancements and full range of Marie Curie benefits

As an End-of-Life Care Senior Nurse (Band 6), you’ll play a key role in shaping a positive, supportive working environment and leading a dedicated team of Registered Nurses and Healthcare Assistants. Working closely with the Clinical Nurse Manager, you’ll oversee patient-centred care, manage a defined caseload, and champion a proactive approach to identifying and supporting those nearing the end of life, ensuring timely transfers to their preferred place of care.

You’ll have the chance to spend more one-on-one time with patients, making a meaningful impact and gaining immense professional satisfaction. This role is challenging and fulfilling, offering the chance to influence care experiences during critical times while benefiting from a supportive environment that values your well-being and professional development.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse on the NMC Register
  • Experience working in palliative care and end-of-life care (hospice, hospital, community)
  • Experience managing and coaching staff
  • Up-to-date knowledge of current palliative care issues
  • Understanding and support of the benefits of clinical supervision and reflective practice
  • Ability to manage time, self and own workload and prioritise effectively
  • Genuine commitment to providing high-quality care
  • Understanding of the benefits of working with a patient-centred philosophy of multidisciplinary team working
