Job Description:

The HIV team is recruiting a part time band 7 advanced nurse practitioner in HIV (fixed term maternity leave cover until December 2027). Using advanced clinical skills the post holder will deliver advanced clinical care to our HIV patients in the outpatient and HIV day ward service.

Based at St Mary’s hospital providing HIV care of the highest quality to over 3,200 patients, this role will best suit a skilled & motivated practitioner who has contemporary, sound theoretical knowledge of HIV with proven interest & awareness in HIV issues.

You will possess excellent communication skills & the ability to prioritise & manage your own workload. You will be expected to have the desire to move the service forward using your detailed knowledge of factors influencing HIV care provision in today’s NHS.

  • A 1st Level registered nurse (Adult or equivalent)
  • Current clinical HIV experience
  • A confident and adaptable clinician who can work at an ‘advanced level’ using patient group directions / independent nurse prescribing & clinical guidance documents
  • A degree in nursing / health promotion / public health or related appropriate clinical discipline.

Main duties of the job

  • Working across the Trusts hospital sites
  • Giving HIV & co-infection diagnoses; offering appropriate support, follow up & partner notification
  • Managing your own nurse led clinics, including treatment support, stable patients etc
  • Acting as a link with Primary care
  • Taking an active role in departmental teaching
  • Managing more junior staff

Person Specification

Education

  • Registered Nurse (adult) level 1
  • Holds a relevant 1st degree in a nursing or associated discipline
  • Mentorship / teaching and assessing qualification or equivalent teaching experience.
  • Evidence of continued professional development (advanced assessment and HIV care)
  • Nurse Independent Prescribing qualification or willingness to undertake.
  • Holds or is working towards masters level study in a relevant area

Experience

  • Significant post registration experience in HIV in either junior specialty role or team leader/management role
  • Able to demonstrate highly developed specialist and advanced knowledge of HIV
  • Able to independently undertake advanced clinical skills such as complex adherence, new starters, switches and the management of HIV patients.
  • Experience of change management.
  • Previous experience in related areas such as HIV

  • Demonstrate commitment in local and Trust wide vision and values
  • Able to demonstrate highly developed specialist and advanced knowledge of Sexual Health
  • Ability to independently undertake advanced clinical skills such as symptomatic STI assessment, diagnosis and management.
  • Knowledge of research and audit including implementation of findings and review of outcomes
  • Advanced contraceptive skills such as intrauterine techniques and sub dermal implants
  • Experience of addressing behavioural change with patients (such as motivational interviewing)
  • Advanced IT skills use
