University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust offers an exciting opportunity for experienced band 5 nurses to join the Cardiac High Dependency Unit (CHDU). The 20‑bed unit caters for adult cardiac patients requiring specialist care such as cardiac surgery, congenital heart disease, cardiology, complex electrophysiology, and heart failure.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high‑standard patient care in a challenging cardiac environment.
- Engage in self‑directed learning and continuous skill development.
- Collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Support safe and timely short‑term ventilation, non‑invasive ventilation, inotropes, and intra‑aortic balloon pump therapy.
- Participate in bedside coaching, competency‑based programme, and education initiatives.
Person Specification – Essential Criteria
- Qualified Nurse (degree/diploma).
- Registered nurse on the appropriate part of the register.
- Knowledge of current issues within acute health service.
- Understanding of personal accountability and own role within the team.
- Evidence of teaching and supporting learners in the role of practice supervisor.
- Awareness of evidence‑based practice and infection control responsibilities.
- Evidence of ongoing personal development and initiative.

- Evidence of recent study.
- Previous experience/qualification in a relevant specialty.
- Teaching experience.
