Responsibilities
- Deliver safe, high‑quality, child‑centred nursing care, including medication oversight, tracheostomy and PEG care, and emergency response.
- Assess health needs, make informed clinical decisions, and contribute to safeguarding and multi‑agency work.
- Communicate effectively with children, families, and professionals, using alternative communication methods where needed.
- Develop and review personalised care plans and empower families in managing health needs.
- Maintain accurate, confidential records and ensure safe use of medical equipment.
- Provide training, supervision, and mentorship to school staff and students.
- Support service improvement through audit, evaluation, and evidence‑based practice.
- Work autonomously while upholding high professional standards across the school nursing service.
- Offer expert training, guidance, and support to school staff, parents, and carers, ensuring the best possible care for every child.
- Serve as a compassionate and enthusiastic leader within the team supporting the senior school nurse and assistant practitioner.
Qualifications & Experience
- Registered General Nurse (RGN) or Registered School Care Nurse (RSCN) with child and/or learning disability experience.
- Experience working with children with additional needs.
- Good working knowledge of Child Protection policy & procedures.
- Clear understanding of community health services.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both written and oral.
- Able to work autonomously and prioritise own work effectively.
- Desirable: School nurse degree or diploma.
- Desirable: Experience working with children with complex health needs.
- Desirable: Previous experience in a special school setting.
- Desirable: Experience initiating and participating in clinical audits.
- Driver's licence – must be a car driver with a valid licence.
