This is a unique opportunity to join our established neuropsychology rotation and gain valuable skills across acute and specialist inpatient and community neuropsychology settings. The Homerton Neuropsychology rotation provides a qualified neuropsychology service to the Regional Neurological Rehabilitation Unit (RNRU), Graham Stroke Unit (GSU) and RNRU Outreach team. You will work as a fully integrated member of the multidisciplinary team and benefit from close working and specialist supervision from the Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist and/or Principal Clinical Psychologist/Clinical Lead for RNRU Outreach.

Homerton Neuropsychology has a strong holistic ethos and many of the services we work into have adopted a biopsychosocial formulation‑led approach. The Trust is keen to develop and nurture high‑calibre neuropsychologists and you will be able to access QiCN supervision, funding, specialist neuro CPD as well as service development, research and leadership opportunities.

The post would suit a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist looking to progress to an 8a position. We also welcome applications from newly qualified Psychologists looking to develop their skills via a preceptorship programme. We particularly welcome applications from candidates from minority ethnic backgrounds to improve our representation of the communities that we serve.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide a specialist neuropsychology service for patients on RNRU / GSU / RNRU Outreach including assessment, intervention, risk management and referral on to other mental health services as appropriate to need.
  • Provide highly specialist psychological supervision for junior psychology staff working in neuro‑rehabilitation services.
  • Provide specialist psychological training, supervision, guidance and consultation to other professionals contributing directly to the formulation and treatment of individual patients.
  • Develop effective links and referral pathways with primary and secondary care teams providing care for patients, including arrangements for communication and joint working.
  • Maintain electronic systems for referrals, appointments, activity and outcome monitoring for performance management, including continuous audit and evaluation of service.
  • Contribute to the operation of practice group teams within the service, consisting of other qualified psychologists as well as psychology assistants and associates.
  • Develop the provision of psychological services within the multi‑disciplinary teams where based, including maintaining good working relationships with other clinical staff.
  • Support the Principal and Consultant Neuropsychologists to lead on local and Trust‑level training and policy writing with respect to Mental Capacity Act, Best Interest Meetings and Deprivation of Liberty in the acute and community settings.

Education, Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • Doctorate‑level qualification (or equivalent) in clinical or counselling psychology which confers eligibility for membership of the British Psychological Society at the level of Chartered Clinical Psychologist.
  • Ability to conduct formal neuropsychological and psychological assessments, analysis, and report writing.
  • Experience of working in a rehabilitation and/or neuropsychology setting.
  • Experience of representing psychology within the context of multi‑disciplinary care.
  • Evidence of CPD as recommended by BPS.
  • Ability to act as a specialist psychologist and work autonomously in community and hospital settings.
  • Ability to provide a culturally competent and non‑stigmatising service including an awareness of the potential impact of discrimination and disadvantage on mental health.
  • Knowledge of key NHS policy developments for patients with stroke and long‑term conditions.
  • Knowledge of neuro‑psychological assessment and intervention for neurodisability.
  • Further postgraduate training in neuropsychology i.e. PG Dip in Clinical Neuropsychology.
  • Skills for facilitating communication in interventions with families and staff teams.
  • Experience of pre or post training experience in a specialist neurorehabilitation service.
  • Experience of working in a multi‑cultural setting, including working with interpreters.
