University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity for a registered nurse to join our Respiratory High Dependency Unit (RHDU) within the medicine care group at Southampton General Hospital. The RHDU team cares for patients with a variety of acute respiratory conditions requiring non‑invasive ventilator support. This role requires a strong focus on patient care, proven leadership skills and the ability to work inter‑professionally.

Responsibilities

As a Staff Nurse you will work alongside a dedicated and supportive team and be an integral part of a multi‑disciplinary team in providing high‑quality care to patients. You will also provide supervision to members of the team and participate in both formal and informal teaching.

Person Specification

Essential criteria

  • Qualified Nurse (degree/diploma)
  • Registered nurse on appropriate part of the register
  • Knowledge of current issues within the acute health service
  • Understanding of personal accountability
  • Knowledge of own role within the team
  • Evidence of teaching and supporting learners in practice as a practice supervisor
  • Awareness of evidence‑based practice
  • Awareness of responsibilities for management of infection control
  • Evidence of ongoing personal development
  • Able to use initiative

Desirable criteria

  • Evidence of recent study
  • Previous experience/qualification in a relevant specialty
  • Teaching experience
