We’re seeking a skilled Maintenance Engineer (Electrical Bias) to join a busy industrial manufacturing environment in Barnsley. This is a key role focused on ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operation of site equipment through effective planned and reactive maintenance.
You’ll be part of a hands‑on engineering team where your expertise will directly contribute to improving equipment uptime, reliability, and overall site performance.
What you’ll be doing
- Carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on electrical systems and machinery
- Responding to breakdowns and diagnosing electrical and mechanical faults
- Reading and working from electrical and mechanical drawings
- Maintaining and repairing a range of industrial equipment including:
- Overhead cranes and jibs
- Plasma and gas cutting machinery
- Sawing and drilling equipment
- Welding and grinding equipment
- Forklifts and sideloaders
- Carrying out mechanical maintenance tasks such as bearing and gear changes
- Ensuring all work is completed in line with Health & Safety procedures
- Working independently and taking ownership of maintenance tasks
- Supporting subcontractor coordination when required
- Contributing to continuous improvement and reliability initiatives
What we’re looking for
- Electrical engineering background within a maintenance environment
- NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (essential)
- Strong electrical and mechanical fault‑finding skills
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
- Experience working with industrial machinery and plant equipment
- Strong understanding of Health & Safety practices
- Self‑motivated, practical, and proactive approach to work
