Job Overview

Trauma & Orthopaedic Nurse Practitioner – Grange University Hospital & Royal Gwent Hospital (secondment for 6 months until 31st October 2026).

The post is advertised as band 7. Applicants who do not currently meet the band 7 skills and competencies are encouraged to apply; if successful they may be appointed under annex 21 rules with a development plan for 3 years.

The role requires an experienced Practitioner to cover Trauma and Elective Services at GUH/RGH, with an expectation to be a consultant‑based practitioner. Orthopaedic knowledge, recent experience and extensive experience in an acute clinical setting at a senior band are essential. Proven leadership and communication skills, and the ability to remain motivated and enthusiastic while under pressure, are essential.

Applicants must be currently working towards a Masters in Clinical Practice, or be willing to undertake this qualification.

Main Duties

  • Cover both Trauma and Elective Services at GUH/RGH.
  • Provide orthopaedic care to patients within the acute clinical setting.
  • Lead and manage teams, ensuring high quality of care.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and maintain excellent communication.

Skills

  • Essential criteria: Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Desirable criteria: Able to collate and analyse data.

Experience

  • Essential criteria: Relevant clinical experience which should be band 6.
  • Desirable criteria: Work in a similar role or an acute ward.

Qualifications

  • Essential criteria: Registered Nurse Part 1.
  • Desirable criteria: Recent Practitioner experience.
  • Fully qualified with a MSc in Clinical Practice is desirable.
