Responsibilities
- Treatment recording and follow up:
- Consult, diagnose, investigate, treat and manage nominated Institute Athletes within the confines of clinical experience and expertise.
- Maintain appropriate medical records.
- Produce forms and documentation as required.
- Athlete Medical Periodic Health Screening:
- Perform periodic health screening as instructed by the Head of Sports Medicine and communicate findings in a confidential manner to relevant staff where appropriate. Monitor actions that derive from profiling.
- Periodic health screening will include mental health screening and female athlete health screening as per the relevant departmental strategy.
- Referrals:
- Refer athletes to relevant UK-based clinical specialists as and when required.
- Develop and co‑ordinate a process of recording and follow up for all athlete referrals.
- Be the main point of contact for this process.
- General:
- Attend and input to network meetings of services providers for targeted Athletes if requested and agreed by Discipline Lead Sports Medicine or nominated deputy.
- Work with colleagues and disciplines to introduce and monitor injury and illness prevention and health management programmes.
- Supply education and information to Athletes, coaches and staff.
- Regular attendance and contribution to Sports Medicine Network Meetings and other sportscotland Institute of Sport network events.
- Additional attendance requests to be agreed in advance by Discipline Lead Sports Medicine or nominated deputy.
- Abide by Home Countries Sport Institute Professional Code of Conduct as well as the Professional Code in Sport as noted by the Faculty of Sport & Exercise Medicine and Good Medical Practice (2024) from the General Medical Council.
Qualifications and Certifications
- Professional membership: GMC (in good standing), BASEM, Fellow or Member of Faculty of SEM.
- Qualification: Higher Education in Sports Medicine (MFSEM, Diploma in SEM or equivalent).
- Current sports first aid and resuscitation certification (to level 3 pre-hospital care).
- PVG eligible for both children and protected adults.
- Professional coverage work in High Performance sport and public liability insurance.
