Astute’s Power Team is partnered with a market‑leading renewables company to recruit a Head of Development for their renewables team across the UK and Ireland.

The Head of Development role will be focused on wind and solar assets. This is a hybrid role and travel to assets will be required on a regular basis. Starting salary is approximately £120,000 plus car allowance, bonus and benefits.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Lead and develop a geographically dispersed renewable development team of 10+ professionals across the UK and Ireland.
  • Drive renewable energy projects from origination through to Ready‑to‑Build and Financial Decision stages.
  • Deliver ambitious development targets and ensure successful execution of greenfield initiatives.
  • Lead project origination activities through acquisitions, partnerships, and strategic business development opportunities.
  • Build and manage renewable energy portfolios comprising utility‑scale solar and onshore wind projects.
  • Oversee partnership and acquisition activities to maximise project progression and commercial success.
  • Provide high‑quality reporting, market insights, and regulatory guidance to the wider renewables team.
  • Develop and implement country‑level renewable energy strategies aligned with business objectives.
  • Act as the key interface between Development and internal departments including EPC, Commercial Analysis, Offtake, and Asset Rotation teams.
  • Represent the Development team externally while promoting a collaborative, solution‑focused leadership culture internally.

Professional Qualifications

  • Degree in a relevant subject.
  • Proven experience managing and growing multi‑location teams, including matrix management experience.
  • Strong project management expertise, particularly within acquisition‑led renewable development environments.
  • Demonstrated track record in UK utility‑scale solar and onshore wind project development from origination to Ready‑to‑Build stage.
  • Excellent negotiation, stakeholder management, and partnership‑building skills.Strong understanding of UK renewable energy permitting, regulation, and market dynamics.

Personal Skills

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Comfortable working in international environments with willingness to travel regularly.
