About The Role

You’ll lead and develop the department’s GOV.UK content strategy, ensuring content is clear, accessible and meets the needs of users across a wide range of services.

Working closely with senior stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams, you’ll shape how DESNZ communicates complex policy in a way that is simple, usable and impactful.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Developing and delivering a department-wide content strategy aligned to key priorities
  • Leading and managing a team of content designers
  • Driving large-scale content improvement projects across GOV.UK
  • Ensuring content is clear, accessible and user‑focused
  • Advising stakeholders and influencing decisions at a senior level
  • Improving processes, workflows and ways of working across the team
  • Championing best practice in GOV.UK content design and user‑centred design
  • Supporting innovation as digital content evolves, including new technologies

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong experience leading content design for GOV.UK (essential)
  • Proven ability to develop and deliver content strategies at scale
  • Experience managing teams and building capability and performance
  • Ability to influence senior stakeholders and work across complex organisations
  • Strong understanding of user‑centred design and accessibility
  • Excellent communication skills, able to simplify complex policy into clear content
