About the Role
As a Lecturer & Programme Leader for GCSE Mathematics, you will lead the design, delivery and ongoing development of high‑quality maths provision that enables learners to build confidence, develop resilience and achieve their goals. You will be responsible for shaping an inclusive and well‑sequenced curriculum, ensuring effective assessment, and taking ownership of programme performance through robust data management and continuous improvement processes. You will play a central role in supporting learners on their journey, from initial assessment to final examination, ensuring each individual receives the right challenge, support and encouragement to succeed. Working collaboratively across curriculum areas, support teams and quality functions, you will help drive excellence in maths teaching across the college.
Role Responsibilities
- Provide strong leadership for GCSE Mathematics programmes, ensuring effective curriculum planning, sequencing and delivery aligned with FE study programme requirements.
- Deliver outstanding teaching, learning and assessment that promotes mastery, problem‑solving, and mathematical confidence in learners of varying abilities.
- Use diagnostic assessment, progress tracking and learner data to identify gaps, plan interventions and drive improvements in outcomes.
- Offer exceptional academic and pastoral support, helping learners overcome barriers to maths learning and supporting progression to further study, apprenticeships or employment.
- Lead and contribute to internal and external quality assurance processes to maintain high standards across the maths provision.
- Support recruitment, interviews, induction and promotional activities, ensuring learners are placed appropriately and receive a positive, motivating start to their programme.
Qualifications
- Level 5 teaching qualification (or willingness to work towards).
- Level 6 qualification in Mathematics or a closely related subject.
- Experience teaching GCSE Mathematics within FE or a similar context.
- Strong understanding of assessment practices, curriculum design and inclusive pedagogy.
- Experience supporting learners with varied abilities and starting points.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven experience delivering GCSE Mathematics within Further Education, using engaging and inclusive pedagogy to support learners with varied starting points.
- Strong skills in planning, sequencing and delivering high‑quality maths lessons, aligned to curriculum intent and assessment requirements.
- Ability to use diagnostic assessment, tracking and learner data to inform teaching, close learning gaps and drive improved outcomes.
- Experience providing pastoral and academic support, helping learners build confidence, develop resilience and progress to positive destinations.
- Excellent organisational, communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to lead programme‑level quality processes and collaborate effectively across curriculum and support teams.
