PSH Officer

A local authority in the South West are seeking an experienced Private Sector Housing Officer to support a busy housing team on an interim basis.

This is a hands‑on role where you’ll be managing a varied caseload, carrying out inspections, and ensuring compliance across the private rented sector.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct property inspections across the private rented sector
• Enforce housing legislation including HHSRS assessments
• Deal with complaints relating to disrepair, overcrowding, and poor housing conditions
• Take enforcement action where necessary (notices, improvement works, etc.)
• Work closely with landlords, tenants, and internal teams
• Support wider housing initiatives, including licensing where required

Requirements

• Previous experience within a local authority private sector housing team
• Strong knowledge of housing legislation and HHSRS
• Confident carrying out inspections and enforcement action
• Ability to manage your own caseload independently
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (for site visits)
