We are seeking a high‑calibre Senior Business Development Manager to play a pivotal role in driving our growth. The Role

As a Senior Business Development Manager, you will be the bridge between our strategic, framework opportunities and the open market. You will nurture meaningful relationships to ensure we are known, trusted, and positioned to win both repeat and new business. This role involves managing key procurement frameworks and generating strategic leads to maintain a robust, three‑year‑plus pipeline of opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Growth & Work Winning

  • Pipeline Management: Maintain a high-quality pipeline with a confirmed tender position at least three times the business plan turnover requirement.
  • Framework Excellence: Manage key regional frameworks, ensuring compliance, effective reporting, and the delivery of agreed targets.
  • Market Intelligence: Research potential clients and projects, providing market insight to anticipate trends and equip our teams with the intelligence needed to gather sector insight to help shape sector strategies. Support competitor analysis.
  • Bid Leadership: Collaborate with Preconstruction and Commercial teams to ensure bids align with customer requirements and regional strategy, leading bids where appropriate.
  • Brand Positioning: Key in the promotion and building reputation of the business across the geographical area and improving awareness of the Stepnell brand within operating areas.

Client Relationship Management

  • Relationship Building: Develop strong, trusted networks with customers, consultants, and industry partners.
  • Account Planning: Create and maintain Key Account Plans (KAPs) to leverage relationships and strengthen the opportunity pipeline.
  • Early Engagement: Shape project briefs and develop customer-focused solutions during the feasibility and pre-positioning stages.

Strategy & Data Leadership

  • Planning: Contribute to the development and delivery of the Regional Business Plan and translate it into workable business development strategies.
  • CRM Ownership: Act as the “Owner” of the CRM system within your geography, ensuring accurate data capture, reporting, and “Bid/No Bid” scoring.
  • Cross-Business Promotion: Identify opportunities for the wider group, including Step Energy, Lawford Bespoke Joinery, and Concrete Repairs.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Mentorship: Support, manage, and mentor junior Business Development colleagues.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Facilitate workshops and presentations and attend networking events to enhance brand awareness.

About You

You are a collaborative, energetic professional with a proven track record of creating and converting opportunities within the construction sector.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Experience: Solid experience in business development and managing/delivering within frameworks.
  • Communication: Excellent influencing and presentation skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels of seniority.
  • Technical Knowledge: A strong understanding of construction markets, customer drivers, and technical construction processes.
  • Organisational Skills: Highly organised with the ability to manage complex reporting, data analysis, and pipeline information.
  • Sector Expertise: Knowledge in specific sectors such as residential, defence, education, or healthcare is highly desirable.
