About The College

Northumberland College is Ofsted Outstanding and is currently building a multi-million, state of the art, new college campus in Ashington, due to open in 2026. The successful candidate will be based at the new college where a purpose-built construction, housing, advanced manufacturing and engineering centre will be located.

Curriculum spans technical, vocational further and higher education and includes large apprenticeship provision and dedicated centres for young people with SEND.

The College has two main campuses in Ashington, and Ponteland, and as part of the college group Education Partnership Northeast, it also has a significant number of satellite delivery centres across the region.

Served by easy road links, and the new train station in Ashington, when Northumberland College opens its new Department for Education backed campus at Wansbeck Business Park, the college will boast a national trailblazer both in architectural design and operation. This major £52 million+ investment comes on top of the College recently driving £14million into new facilities and resources at its existing sites.

About The Role

This is a programme leadership role within our new Connect2 SEMH curriculum, with a focus on Hospitality. You will develop and lead a structured programme that supports learners with SEMH needs to re-engage with education and progress into further learning or employment.

This is a new and growing provision, which gives you the opportunity to shape the curriculum, systems and learner journey from the start. You will work closely with the Curriculum Manager to design a sequenced, career-focused offer that balances vocational learning with personal development.

You will have the opportunity to develop leadership skills, contribute to wider curriculum design and work with external partners to create meaningful progression routes. You will also support the use of adaptive teaching approaches and tools that meet the needs of SEMH learners.

Role Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver a high-quality Hospitality curriculum within the Connect2 SEMH provision
  • Design and sequence learning that builds practical skills, confidence and employability
  • Track learner progress, attendance and behaviour, using data to drive improvement
  • Build strong relationships with learners, families and external professionals
  • Support and guide staff to ensure consistent, adaptive teaching approaches
  • Develop progression pathways into further education, training or employment

Qualifications

  • Teaching qualification or willingness to work towards
  • Relevant vocational qualification in Hospitality or Catering

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Experience working with learners with SEMH needs or challenging behaviour
  • Experience delivering vocational or practical-based learning
  • Strong behaviour management and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to plan, deliver and adapt engaging sessions
  • Experience tracking learner progress and using data to inform practice
  • Ability to work with families and external agencies to support learners

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Experience leading a curriculum area or managing a programme
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed or therapeutic approaches
  • Experience working within post-16 or alternative provision settings
  • Understanding of local labour market opportunities within Hospitality
  • Experience supporting learners into employment or further education
