We're looking for a Benefits Sector Manager to lead our high‑profile Supported Accommodation Housing Benefit Team within the country's largest local authority. This hands‑on manager role is for someone who thrives on pace, complexity and challenge. The position will drive performance, improve outcomes and work in partnership with colleagues and partners to enhance this critical public service. You will lead and motivate an operational team, review policy and introduce new legislation into robust, efficient processes.
We're seeking an experienced Benefits practitioner or someone ready to step up to the next career challenge. You will be an integral part of the Benefits leadership team, driving the overall running of the service. Proven experience of housing and legislative knowledge is essential. This is a hybrid working role; onsite attendance is dependent on service needs. If you are operationally strong and passionate about delivering results in a complex environment, we would love to hear from you.
Working for Birmingham City Council is more than a job – it is about improving life for the 1 million plus people who live and work in the city. The Council is a fantastic place to work with a clear vision and five key priorities:
- A Prosperous Birmingham: through a focus on inclusive economic growth, tackling unemployment, attracting inward investment, and maximising the benefits of the Commonwealth Games.
- An Inclusive Birmingham: through a focus on tackling poverty and inequality, empowering citizens, promoting diversity and civic pride, and supporting and enabling all children and young people to thrive.
- A Safe Birmingham: through a focus on making the city safer, safeguarding vulnerable citizens, increasing affordable housing, and tackling homelessness.
- A Healthy Birmingham: through a focus on tackling health inequalities, encouraging physical activity and healthy living, supporting mental health, and improving outcomes for adults with disabilities and older people.
- A Green Birmingham: through a focus on street cleanliness, improving air quality, continuing the route to net zero, and becoming a city of nature.
We see the Council’s role as providing strategic leadership – visualising a new future and equipping others to share our vision. We want to ensure services for all, supporting those least able to support themselves by partnering with communities and putting citizens at the heart of decision‑making. We look for people who put the customer at the centre of their approach and commit to excellence to help us achieve our vision. We will support you to develop and thrive with long‑term success and numerous development opportunities such as apprenticeships.
In return, we offer excellent terms and conditions, generous annual leave, a great pension scheme, well‑being support, an annual travel pass and discounts at a number of city centre establishments.
