Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (Permanent)
Our client, a leading engineering organisation within the marine sector, is seeking a motivated and capable Mechanical Design Engineer. The successful candidate will bring strong design experience, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work across a range of engineering applications and industries.
Monday to Friday on-site, Birmingham. Must hold a British passport.
Job Description
- Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies using 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred).
- Produce detailed 3D model manufacturing drawings, FEA experience and hand calculations.
- Work on a variety of engineering projects across the marine sector and related industries.
- Present technical designs and solutions to customers.
- Liaise with external suppliers including metallurgists and R&D teams.
- Ensure designs meet performance, quality, and manufacturability requirements.
- Support design reviews, modifications, and continuous improvement activities.
- Maintain accurate engineering documentation in line with company standards.
Essential Experience / Skills / Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer.
- Strong 3D CAD modelling experience (SolidWorks preferred, others considered).
- Strong understanding of maths, physics, and engineering principles.
- Confident in customer-facing situations and technical presentations.
- Experience liaising with suppliers and external stakeholders.
- Self-motivated with a proactive approach to learning and development.
- Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.
