Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (Permanent)

Our client, a leading engineering organisation within the marine sector, is seeking a motivated and capable Mechanical Design Engineer. The successful candidate will bring strong design experience, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work across a range of engineering applications and industries.

Monday to Friday on-site, Birmingham. Must hold a British passport.

Job Description

  • Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies using 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred).
  • Produce detailed 3D model manufacturing drawings, FEA experience and hand calculations.
  • Work on a variety of engineering projects across the marine sector and related industries.
  • Present technical designs and solutions to customers.
  • Liaise with external suppliers including metallurgists and R&D teams.
  • Ensure designs meet performance, quality, and manufacturability requirements.
  • Support design reviews, modifications, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Maintain accurate engineering documentation in line with company standards.

Essential Experience / Skills / Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer.
  • Strong 3D CAD modelling experience (SolidWorks preferred, others considered).
  • Strong understanding of maths, physics, and engineering principles.
  • Confident in customer-facing situations and technical presentations.
  • Experience liaising with suppliers and external stakeholders.
  • Self-motivated with a proactive approach to learning and development.
  • Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.
