Job Summary:
The Refrigeration Service Engineer is responsible for the maintenance, servicing, and commissioning of commercial and heavy commercial refrigeration systems across a range of sites. This role involves working on a variety of refrigeration technologies, delivering high-quality service, ensuring regulatory compliance, and maintaining excellent customer relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in commissioning of new refrigeration systems and associated equipment.
- Carry out upgrades and modifications to existing systems.
- Complete commissioning paperwork and ensure proper system handover.
Service & Maintenance
- Perform planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive repairs.
- Diagnose and rectify system faults to minimise downtime.
- Complete service reports accurately and in a timely manner.
- Participate in on-call rota for emergency breakdowns.
- Provide rapid and effective solutions to restore system operation.
- Work alongside other engineers, apprentices, and project teams.
- Support and mentor less experienced colleagues.
- Attend regular team meetings and safety briefings.
Technical Expertise
- Work on heavy commercial refrigeration systems, CO₂, HFC, and glycol-based systems.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, wiring schematics, and P&IDs.
- Apply energy-efficient practices to system operation and servicing.
Compliance & Safety
- Adhere to F-Gas regulations, site-specific safety protocols, and company policies.
- Ensure all RAMS, permits, and safety documentation are followed on-site.
- Report near misses and incidents as part of continual improvement.
Customer Interaction
- Communicate effectively with clients on-site, providing updates and recommendations.
- Represent the company in a professional and courteous manner.
- Identify opportunities for system improvements or upgrades.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in refrigeration engineering.
- Experience with CO₂ refrigeration systems.
- City & Guilds Level 2 or 3 in Refrigeration & Air Conditioning (or equivalent).
- Full UK driving licence.
- Strong understanding of health & safety regulations and risk assessments.
- Excellent fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in the use of IT for service reporting.
- Customer-focused with a professional approach.
