About the Role

The HR & Operations Manager is responsible for delivering a balanced HR operations and people development function across Veran Performance. The postholder acts as the primary HR expert for line managers and the business, owning the performance management cycle, building people capability, and managing the HR team. Working closely with the management board, they also ensure the business remains compliant, operationally sound, and that employees are supported throughout their entire career journey at Veran.

What you will be doing

HR Advisory & Policy

  • Provide second‑line support on HR policy and line manager advice, acting as the go‑to escalation point for people matters.
  • Own and maintain Veran Performance's HR policies, employee handbook, and associated guides, ensuring they reflect current legislation and best practice.
  • Drive compliance with company policy and processes across the business inline with current HR legislation.

Performance Management

  • Lead the end‑to‑end performance management cycle, including the design, facilitation, and continuous improvement of appraisal and review processes for employees and managers.
  • Guide and support line managers on performance improvement initiatives for individuals and teams.
  • Report on performance trends and employee relations matters, providing recommendations and agreeing appropriate actions with the Management Board.

People & Capability Development

  • Develop and build line management and people management capability across the business, equipping managers with the skills, tools, and confidence to lead effectively.
  • Assess organisational learning needs and design and implement training programmes accordingly.
  • Manage the consulting pathways and apprenticeship programmes, ensuring they are well‑structured, well‑supported, and aligned to business growth objectives.
  • Manage the training approval and budgeting process, ensuring appropriate oversight and value for money.

Employee Relations & Lifecycle

  • Handle employee relations issues, including performance management, sickness and absence, and disciplinary and grievance procedures.
  • Ensure any ER cases are accurately documented and formally closed in a timely manner.
  • Oversee onboarding and off‑boarding processes, ensuring tasks are assigned and completed to a high standard.

People Data, Engagement & Operations

  • Build and maintain employee data reports for the management board, handling sensitive information with discretion and presenting findings clearly.
  • Lead the employee engagement survey process, recommended actions, and follow‑up communications to the wider business.
  • Support with the maintenance and controls of Veran’s ISO standards.
  • Oversee day‑to‑day office management, including supplier and vendor contract management and health and safety compliance.

Act as a champion for Veran Performance's values, fostering a positive, inclusive, and high‑performing company culture.

  • Strong knowledge of UK employment law, HR best practice, and policy management.
  • Proven experience handling employee relations cases, including disciplinary, grievance, and absence management
  • Experience leading a full performance management cycle, including design and continuous improvement
  • Track record of building people and line management capability through training and development programmes
  • Experience managing apprenticeship or structured career pathway programmes
  • Confident advising and influencing senior stakeholders, including at board level
  • Skilled in people data reporting, with the ability to present HR insights clearly and with discretion
  • Organised and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage competing priorities across HR and operational responsibilities
