There is an exciting opportunity for a full‑time permanent post joining our small, dedicated team of Breast Care Clinical Nurse Specialists at North Bristol NHS Trust. The clinical nurse specialist will be a key member of the North Bristol Trust Breast care CNS team that provides services across Southmead Hospital and Weston General Hospital.

They will work as an important member of the Cancer multidisciplinary Team within North Bristol NHS Trust, collaborating with a range of health‑care providers in the local community and across the regional network. The post holder will provide high‑quality, specialist, expert nursing care and support for patients with a cancer diagnosis throughout the care pathway.

Based at the Southmead site you will have the opportunity to work between both surgical centres, at Southmead and Weston, enabling you to feel part of the whole breast‑care service.

Main Duties of the Job

  • Provide highly specialist nursing care for a patient case load ensuring everyone receives a high standard of care, working to coordinate care and provide easy access to services and ongoing physical and emotional support for patients and their families.
  • Participate in clinical audit and research.
  • Promote a culture of evidence‑based practice.
  • Be involved in health promotion.
  • Plan the provision of day‑to‑day organisational tasks in the absence of a band 7 breast‑cancer CNS.
  • Participate in quality improvement, using improvement methodology to motivate and reassure staff through negotiation and training, to facilitate service improvement.
  • Act as an autonomous practitioner, independently planning, implementing and evaluating a programme of care achieved through systematic and holistic assessment skills and personalised care planning, including the management of wounds and seroma care.
  • Demonstrate highly developed communication skills to provide guidance, advice and support to the individual and the carer regarding their holistic care.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work well within the team and maintain professional relationships and communication.
  • Lead on the implementation of clinical competency, supervision and assessment frameworks in place to assure a consistently high standard of nursing care for cancer patients.
  • Collate and record quantitative and qualitative data that provides evidence of productivity, outcomes and quality through audit and research.

Experience and Qualifications

Essential Criteria

  • Registered General Nurse / Current NMC registration.
  • Degree‑level qualification in a relevant subject.
  • Evidence of formal ongoing professional development.
  • Significant post‑registration experience in cancer nursing or breast care.

Desirable Criteria

  • Evidence of study at Masters level or willingness to work towards it.
  • Specialist training in a relevant cancer specialty.
  • Relevant teaching, mentoring and presentation experience.
