Role Overview

Hackney’s Children & Families Service is recruiting an experienced social worker to join the Emergency Duty Team (EDT). The EDT operates beyond regular working hours, employing workers to provide critical services and support to children and families when it would not be safe, appropriate or lawful to delay intervention to the next working day.

Responsibilities

  • Triage all emergency children’s safeguarding referrals received whilst on duty, including working with agencies such as the police and other emergency services.
  • Hold strategy discussions regarding significant harm concerns.
  • Analyse, summarise, and evaluate information received out of hours to arrange interim support aimed at safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, and/or take action to ensure the safety of the child.
  • Act as the corporate parent on behalf of the local authority for looked‑after children.
  • Provide support and advice to families in urgent situations.
  • Ensure smooth handover of information to daytime services.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Social work qualification or equivalent and registered with Social Work England.
  • Proven post‑qualifying experience working with children’s social care.
  • Ability to work with a high degree of autonomy and flexibility.
  • Willingness to work remotely and to travel occasionally to the Hackney offices.
  • Commitment to Hackney’s values and an anti‑racist, trauma‑informed, and systemic approach when interacting with service users.
