We’re seeking a Nuclear Safety Engineer to join our diverse team and play a role in developing and enhancing our support to existing and new nuclear projects.

Scope of Work

We support clients in all parts of the UK civil and defence nuclear industry, as well as a wide range of non‑reactor, experimental or demonstrator facilities. We provide technical skills to our clients on engineering projects for the design, construction, operation, maintenance, defuelling, and decommissioning of their nuclear facilities.

Responsibilities

As a nuclear safety professional, you will be expected to manage and undertake project work for clients on, or in support of, significant nuclear safety and assurance tasks, and supervise other staff in doing such work. You’ll develop a proven track record of using your experience and knowledge in the nuclear industry to assess and justify engineering problems and producing related safety justifications. You’ll also oversee and manage projects, develop and hold client relationships, and win new work; as well as supporting and coaching junior colleagues’ development.

  • Develop and execute strategies to handle complex nuclear safety challenges.
  • Manage technical tasks such as safety assessment, risk assessment, hazard identification, fault schedules, design basis analysis, probabilistic analysis, safety functional requirements.
  • Conduct periodic reviews of safety of nuclear facilities.
  • Qualification and substantiation of systems against safety requirements.
  • Internal and external hazards assessments.
  • Safety case development and support for nuclear and non‑nuclear plant.
  • Authoring or reviewing and verifying safety‑related documents.

Essential Requirements

  • Demonstrable 4+ years of civil nuclear or defence nuclear infrastructure experience.
  • A Degree, Master's or PhD in a relevant STEM subject.
  • Well‑developed organisational skills and proven track record of leading technical teams.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work with changing priorities and operate autonomously.
  • An appetite to continually learn, improve and stretch yourself.
  • A willingness to travel and spend time on client sites.

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience working in highly regulated and/or high hazard industries.
  • Technical oversight, leadership and self‑directed review.
  • Experience in project management and commercial aspects.
  • Technical consultancy experience.
  • Chartered (or working towards) with a professional institution.

Security Requirements

Due to the nature of the work that Frazer‑Nash Consultancy undertakes, candidates will be required to undergo pre‑employment screening and will be able to satisfy clearance criteria for UK National Security Vetting.
