Balfour Beatty has a 115‑year legacy of delivering iconic buildings and infrastructure and has been selected by BP to construct a first‑of‑a‑kind fully integrated gas‑fired power station with carbon capture and storage as part of the Net Zero Teesside project in Redcar and Cleveland.
What you’ll be doing
- Supporting the Engineering Manager and Pre‑Construction Managers to provide input to overall design strategy and workload management.
- Supporting the delivery teams, verifying the work of others in a timely and efficient manner, and providing expert technical support.
- Providing integration planning of Methods, Permanent and Temporary works with multi‑disciplinary project delivery teams.
- Ensuring design risks are considered and preparing design risk assessments; communicating residual design risks to others.
- Leading design assurance on projects through conducting regular review meetings with project teams, identifying best practice and areas for improvement and concern.
- Developing and maintaining relationships with relevant technical consultants and suppliers.
- Promoting the development of BIM within the design process.
- Supporting the Engineering Manager in ensuring that learning and best practice is shared across the business stream and the business as a whole.
- Maintaining personal expertise and knowledge to ensure Project Engineering is at the forefront of the industry both technically and in using the latest technologies and standards.
- Carrying out technical audits in the office and site and ensuring all actions are closed out.
- Conforming to designer obligations of the Construction (Design and Management) regulations.
Who we’re looking for
- Recognised professional qualification (MICE or MIStructE) and a valid CSCS card.
- Extensive up‑to‑date technical knowledge of temporary works design and ground engineering and industry best practice.
- Strong focus, thoroughness and professional credibility to advise senior management when something needs immediate redress, with tenacity and drive to ensure necessary action is taken.
- Subject‑matter expertise and good understanding in other engineering areas.
- Working knowledge of mechanical, structural and geotechnical engineering and related software packages; BIM skills required.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, ability to establish effective relationships with partners and delivery team members under time pressure.
- Customer‑centric and flexible approach, with strategic and creative insight to understand opportunities in tender invitations and willing to challenge the norm.
- Experience of leading technical aspects in a timely manner and knowing “what good looks like” in submissions.
- Desire to continuously pursue innovation and development, focusing on customer requirements.
