Principal Structural Engineer – Bristol

Our client is a small, ambitious engineering consultancy based in Bristol, delivering high-quality structural design across residential, commercial, education, and mixed‑use projects throughout the UK. Due to continued growth, we're looking for a Principal Structural Engineer to play a key role in leading projects, mentoring engineers, and helping drive the business forward.
The Role
As a Principal Structural Engineer, you'll take ownership of projects from concept through to delivery, working closely with clients, architects, and contractors. You'll have the opportunity to lead a talented team while remaining hands‑on technically.
Responsibilities
- Leading structural design on a range of building projects
- Managing project delivery, budgets, and client relationships
- Mentoring and supporting junior engineers and technicians
- Coordinating with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders
- Contributing to business development and helping grow the Bristol office
- Ensuring technical excellence and compliance with industry standards
About You
We're looking for someone who combines strong technical ability with leadership and commercial awareness.
Qualifications
- Chartered Engineer status (MIStructE or MICE)
- Significant UK consultancy experience
- Strong knowledge of steel, concrete, timber, and masonry design
- Experience leading projects and managing clients independently
- Excellent communication and team leadership skills
- A proactive, collaborative approach
