Job Summary

Join a large and heavily invested industrial processing site as Deputy Operations Manager. You will support the Operations Manager with the safe, compliant and efficient day‑to‑day running of the facility, maintain operational performance, lead teams, drive continuous improvement initiatives and ensure the highest standards of safety and environmental compliance across the site.

Operating within a 24/7 environment, you will also be responsible for supporting outages, overseeing permit systems, managing contractors, and stepping into the Operations Manager position in their absence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the safe, compliant, and efficient day‑to‑day running of the facility.
  • Maintain operational performance and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure the highest standards of safety and environmental compliance.
  • Support outages and oversee permit systems.
  • Manage contractors and coordinate activities.
  • Assume the Operations Manager role in their absence.

Requirements

  • Senior Authorised Person (SAP) experience including HV, LV, and mechanical systems.
  • Minimum HNC qualification within a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent operational experience.
  • Supervisory experience within a steam‑powered plant or heavy industrial environment.
  • Strong knowledge of Health & Safety and Environmental legislation.
  • Previous experience working in UK power generation, utilities, process manufacturing, or heavy industrial environment.
  • Experience with permit‑to‑work systems and operational procedures.
  • Excellent leadership and people‑management skills.
  • Experience leading investigations into incidents, accidents, and near‑misses.
  • Ability to influence, motivate, and develop teams.
  • Good IT skills including Microsoft Office and CMMS/ERP systems.
  • Flexible approach to working within a 24/7 operational environment.
