Purpose of the Role

We are seeking a Site Agent to join our Highways Contracting team in Leeds. Reporting to the Contracts Manager, you will be responsible for the efficient delivery of secured contracts, managing on-site operatives and subcontractors, and ensuring works are completed safely, to quality standards and within budget and programme. You will be the main point of contact on site and will act within defined financial authorities to protect contract revenue and performance.

Main Responsibilities

You will lead and motivate site teams, plan and allocate resources (labour, plant, materials and subcontractors), and maintain strong client relationships through regular meetings and site visits. You will ensure compliance with method statements, risk assessments, CDM regulations and company safety and quality procedures, delivering a zero‑tolerance approach to unsafe acts. Duties include preparing and agreeing variations and additional works for financial recovery, conducting safety audits and toolbox talks, checking timesheets, completing cost‑capture returns, attending progress meetings and supporting tender activity. You will also manage inductions, training needs and performance of operatives, coordinate with clients and partners (including Aone+), and ensure timely submission of all site paperwork and invoicing information.

Ideal Candidate

You will hold an appropriate construction qualification (ONC/HNC/HND or equivalent) and have a minimum of three years’ experience on fast‑track motorways, trunk roads or similar highways projects. You must have proven people‑ and resource‑management skills, a good working knowledge of health & safety and HR procedures, experience with NEC/ICE or MAC contracts, and a full clean driving licence. Strong leadership, planning and communication skills, commercial awareness, problem‑solving ability and flexibility are essential. You should be a team player, results‑driven, conscientious and committed to continuous improvement and high standards of safety and client service.

Package Description

  • A salary of £60,000 – £70,000 per annum
  • Our Colas Pension Scheme has combined contributions of up to 10%
  • Life Assurance Scheme which is x4 basic salary
  • 25 days annual leave per year + Public Holidays

  • Hybrid Working Scheme (dependent on the role)
