SEN Assistant Teacher
Salary: £29,083 – £31,467 per annum
Hours: 36.5 hours per week

About the Role
Staffline Recruitment Ireland is currently recruiting for an Assistant Teacher on behalf of a leading specialist education provider.
This is a senior classroom support role, combining leadership responsibilities with direct, hands-on support for students with additional needs, including autism.
The successful candidate will work closely with teaching staff to support learning delivery, lead classroom assistants, and contribute to a positive and inclusive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Learning Support
- Support the delivery of lessons for individuals and small groups
- Assist in lesson planning and review with teaching staff
- Provide structured feedback on student progress
- Deliver planned learning activities under teacher guidance
- Provide classroom cover when required
- Support students during breaks, lunch, and educational visits
- Use ICT and specialist resources effectively
Behaviour & Student Support
- Follow Personal Learning Plans and Behaviour Support Plans
- Apply recognised behaviour support strategies (e.g. PBS, CPI)
- Respond to incidents and maintain accurate records
- Promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment
- Monitor and report changes in student needs
Team Leadership
- Supervise and coordinate Classroom Assistants
- Support induction and mentoring of new staff
- Provide feedback through performance review processes
- Allocate tasks and ensure effective team deployment
Communication & Collaboration
- Build strong relationships with staff, students, and families
- Attend and contribute to meetings on student progress
- Promote a collaborative and inclusive school culture
Professional Responsibilities
- Follow safeguarding and organisational policies
- Maintain accurate records and documentation
- Participate in training and professional development
- Contribute to continuous improvement within the service
Essential Criteria
- Level 4 qualification (or Level 3 with 5 years' relevant SEN experience, with commitment to achieve Level 4)
- Minimum 1 year's experience supporting children/young people with learning disabilities and/or autism
- Experience working in an SEN setting
- Ability to support and coordinate a team
- Skills in at least one specialist area (e.g. communication, behaviour, sensory, arts, outdoor learning)
- Strong literacy and numeracy skills
- Ability to work in a physically and emotionally demanding environment
Desirable Criteria
- GCSE English and Maths (Grade C or equivalent)
- Experience as a Classroom Assistant or similar role
- Experience managing or supervising staff
- Training in risk assessment (e.g. IOSH)
- Knowledge of multidisciplinary working
