An established, purpose-driven professional organisation is seeking a Head of Finance to lead its finance function and support strategic decision-making at a senior level.

This is a key leadership role, offering the opportunity to shape financial strategy, drive operational excellence, and partner with stakeholders across the organisation, including senior leadership and Board-level audiences.

The Role

Reporting to the Executive Director, you will oversee all operational aspects of finance, ensuring robust financial management, compliance, and insightful reporting. You will act as a trusted business partner, helping to guide future growth and organisational performance.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the preparation of monthly and annual financial reporting, ensuring accuracy and clarity
  • Managing budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning processes
  • Providing strategic financial insight to support decision-making across the organisation
  • Overseeing financial accounting operations, including payables, receivables, and general ledger
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory, tax, and audit requirements
  • Managing treasury activities, cash flow, and relationships with financial institutions
  • Driving improvements in financial systems, processes, and controls, including implementation of new systems
  • Supporting payroll and benefits processes in collaboration with HR
  • Line management of a small finance team

About You

You will be a qualified accountant with strong technical expertise and a proactive, collaborative approach.

  • Fully qualified accountant (e.g. ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
  • Strong knowledge of UK GAAP and financial reporting standards
  • Proven experience in management accounting, budgeting, and forecasting
  • Ability to influence and partner with stakeholders at all levels
  • Strong systems skills and experience improving financial processes
  • High attention to detail and a solutions-focused mindset
  • Experience managing finance operations and/or teams
  • Experience in the charity or not-for-profit sector
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to adapt style to different audiences
  • A collaborative and relationship-focused approach
