The Head of New Business Development will lead the identification, development, and implementation of new income-generating opportunities that support the long-term sustainability and impact of St Peter’s Hospice.
This role will explore and deliver innovative approaches to income generation beyond traditional fundraising and retail activities. This includes developing new commercial ventures, strategic partnerships, service-based opportunities, and social enterprise initiatives.
Working across the organisation, the postholder will assess emerging opportunities, develop robust business cases, and lead the creation of new ventures that align with the hospice’s mission and values while delivering sustainable financial returns.
External Business Opportunities
- Lead the development of a new business development strategy to diversify income streams and strengthen long-term financial sustainability
- Monitor market trends and innovation across healthcare, charity and commercial sectors to identify emerging opportunities
- Identify and evaluate commercial, partnership and service based opportunities aligned to the hospice’s purpose, strategic goals and risk appetite
- Build and manage a pipeline of new income-generating opportunities across multiple sectors and markets
- Undertake feasibility studies, market analysis and financial modelling; develop robust business cases and recommendations for approval
- Lead the design, launch and scaling of new initiatives from concept through to implementation
- Develop operating models, financial plans and governance structures for new ventures; oversee pilots and testing before wider rollout
Internal Business Opportunities
- Review organisational assets, facilities, services and expertise to identify under‑used capacity and untapped commercial or social enterprise opportunities
- Develop business models for opportunities such as training and education programmes, consultancy/advisory services, facility hire and service innovation
- Ensure new activity protects and enhances the hospice environment and patient experience
- Explore appropriate structures for new ventures (e.g., subsidiaries, joint ventures, partnerships or stand‑alone social enterprises) and ensure legal, regulatory and governance compliance
- Build and maintain relationships with corporate partners, entrepreneurs, investors and sector leaders; represent the hospice externally in new business discussions
- Work collaboratively across teams, encouraging a culture of innovation and providing guidance on commercial opportunities and new income models
- Set KPIs and performance measures, monitor financial performance and impact, and manage risk associated with new business activity
