Harper Recruitment Group is delighted to be working in partnership with a highly successful logistics and distribution business based in Bingham, Nottinghamshire. An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Head of Transport Operations to join the senior leadership team.
This is a pivotal operational leadership role where you will be responsible for overseeing a large-scale 24‑hour transport and warehouse operation, ensuring exceptional service delivery, operational efficiency, compliance, and team performance across multiple functions.
The successful candidate will play a key part in driving operational excellence, maintaining high compliance standards, and supporting the long‑term stability and reputation of excellence of the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the day-to-day operation across transport, warehouse and night‑shift functions within a 24‑hour operation.
- Manage operational performance, service delivery, KPIs, budgets and customer expectations.
- Provide visible, hands‑on leadership across the operation, supporting managers, supervisors and drivers.
- Oversee compliance relating to O‑Licence regulations, drivers’ hours, tachograph analysis and fleet operations.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across operational processes, safety and efficiency.
- Build strong working relationships with customers and internal stakeholders.
- Support operational reporting, workforce planning and long‑term succession planning.
What We’re Looking For
- Proven senior leadership experience within transport, logistics or distribution operations.
- Strong knowledge of UK transport compliance, including DVSA and O‑Licence requirements.
- Experience leading multi‑shift or 24‑hour operational teams.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Commercial awareness with experience managing operational budgets and performance.
- Operator CPC qualification preferred, or willingness to obtain within six months.
- A hands‑on leadership style with the ability to build trust across operational teams.
