The Platform Tribe at Preply brings together teams responsible for the internal foundations that enable engineers to build, deploy, and operate Preply reliably and at scale. Today, we have around 200 engineers at Preply, with plans to grow the team by another 100 engineers this year, making the Platform Tribe a critical enabler of our next phase of growth.
What you'll be doing:
As the first Platform Product Manager, you will own internal platform products that reduce developer friction, improve reliability, and increase delivery speed while bringing a product mindset to platform capabilities.
- Maintain product charters for platform products, including users, problem statements, non-goals, and success metrics.
- Define and own the vision, roadmap, and OKRs for core platform capabilities.
- Identify and prioritize developer pain points using qualitative and quantitative signals with the focus on impact.
- Translate platform needs into clear product requirements and priorities.
- Partner with engineering to evaluate technical trade-offs and solutions, focusing on scalable platform capabilities rather than custom solutions for individual teams.
- Drive adoption of platform standards across teams.
- Define and track success metrics such as developer productivity, reliability, and cost efficiency.
- Align platform investments with company growth and scaling goals.
- Run discovery through developer interviews, Dev Experience surveys, support interruptions, incident reviews, and platform metrics (e.g. DORA, CI/CD reliability).
- Lead migrations and deprecations with empathy, clarity, and consistency.
- Work closely with EMs and Staff+ engineers, spending most of your time embedded with engineering teams.
What you need to succeed:
- Strong product thinking combined with technical literacy in software engineering, developer tooling, or systems.
- Experience working with highly technical internal products (platforms, tooling, infra, or developer-facing systems).
- Ability to operate effectively in ambiguity and conflicting priorities.
- Proven ability to challenge priorities and drive alignment across internal stakeholders.
- A bias for leverage, defaults, and standards, grounded in the belief that standardization unlocks creativity.
- Solid conceptual understanding of/familiarity with:
- Cloud platforms and infrastructure;
- Modern distributed systems;
- Trade-offs between Reliability vs velocity, Abstraction vs flexibility, Standardization vs team autonomy;
- SLOs, DORA metrics, and cost efficiency metrics.
- Ability to review and challenge technical RFCs and architecture proposals at a conceptual, outcome-oriented level.
- Nice-to-have: prior hands-on experience as a software engineer or Engineering Manager before transitioning into Product.
