Job Summary
This position sits within the Equinix Global Design and Construction team. The Senior Project Manager oversees and manages various aspects of the datacentre project cycle, from inception through transition. The manager directs day‑to‑day activities of Construction/Operation Project Managers, mentors junior team members, and makes tactical decisions to resolve project issues. The role also manages construction project costs, methods, and team selection to meet schedules and goals in a multi‑faced environment.
Responsibilities
- Inception – Gain stakeholder alignment, obtain approval, and secure advance funding for design and preconstruction activities.
- Construction – Oversee completion of design and preconstruction, ensuring high quality and safety.
- Testing & Acceptance – Plan and execute rigorous testing to ensure facility functions as designed and meets expectations.
- Transition – Facilitate hand‑off of the project to site operations, ensuring all customer requirements are accommodated.
- Provide guidance to Construction Project Managers and set goals for team members.
- Manage one or more construction projects simultaneously, leading by example on safety, standards, and culture.
- Monitor project progress, quality, and compliance with building regulations.
- Maintain and manage project risk registers.
- Direct external vendors, including general contractors, design teams, commissioning agents, and equipment suppliers.
- Establish and maintain high‑value relationships with vendors.
- Support the identification and development of training programs and cross‑functional training.
- Manage contract administration procedures, including generation, review, and monitoring of contracts and change orders.
- Liaise with local authorities and state agencies.
- Direct internal and external project teams across Design, Procurement, Operations, Commercial, and IT/Network support.
- Mentor junior team members.
- Maintain best‑in‑class policies and procedures, manage project closure and handover, and ensure lessons‑learnt processes are implemented.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in construction, construction project management, engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience in project and construction management, including critical infrastructure for datacentre or similar environments.
- Willingness and ability to travel.
- Customer‑focused, self‑motivated, and flexible.
- In‑depth knowledge of relevant statutory regulations and industry best practices.
- Experience in construction procurement methodologies.
- Experience in adopting off‑site manufacturing methods in construction.
- Proficiency in MS Office, including MS Project, Excel, and Visio.
- Fluency in English.
