Embedded Engineer – Firmware Development

A role in our design centre in Cardiff, working in small Agile teams to develop and debug embedded firmware for PACS RFID access control products. The position requires effective time management across multiple product stages, collaboration with colleagues onsite and overseas, and occasional travel.
This engineer demonstrates initiative, identifying and suggesting areas for future work beyond assigned tasks.
Responsibilities
- Implement embedded firmware designs and test solutions primarily in C and C#.
- Create design documentation.
- Work hands‑on with and debug embedded systems.
- Complete tasks with minimal supervision.
Required Knowledge / Experience
- Ability to write low to medium complexity code solutions.
- Experience with embedded C, bare‑metal and RTOS applications.
- Proficiency with standard development tools: debuggers, editors, compilers.
- Comfortable working at low level (GPIO, UART, SPI, I2C).
- Experience with software version control.
- Engineering degree or equivalent or suitable experience.
- Minimum 1+ year of related industry experience.
Additional Beneficial Skills
- Experience with Smart Card ISO7816 and RFID ISO 14443/15693 protocols.
- Implementation experience of cryptographic solutions.
- I2C and SPI programming.
- Unit testing with NUnit.
- Python.
- CMock unit testing.
Work Requirements
- Compliance with HID Global policies and procedures related to Quality, Security, Safety, Business Continuity, and Environment.
- Availability for travel and fieldwork, including international travel.
- Must possess a valid passport or be able to acquire one.
- Must be legally eligible to work in the hiring country.
