We are working with a Bristol-based market-leading developer of application software for the global healthcare insurance sector who have an immediate requirement for an experienced, forward-thinking Technical Services Consultant/DevOps Engineer with a strong DevOps/cloud hosting background.

This client-facing role will be predominantly home-based but with occasional travel to client sites in the UK and overseas, including the Bristol head office.

The role:

The Technical Services Consultant role encompasses two main activities: Technical Consulting for both on-premise and cloud clients, and Configuration, Deployment, and Technical Monitoring for their clients in the cloud.

Technical Consulting duties will include:

  • Provide technical consultancy to clients and internal teams on deployment and software usage.
  • Define the technical architecture for software integration within client and third-party ecosystems, including strategy, gap analysis, interface design, security, and software selection.
  • Plan, implement, and manage data migration activities from existing systems.
  • Define infrastructure architecture for on-premise and SaaS projects, covering hardware, network, and software requirements.
  • Support pre-sales activities with enterprise architecture solutions.
  • Participate in implementation projects, owning technical work streams and liaising with clients.
  • Ensure smooth software releases and installations.
  • Prepare documentation and present solutions to clients.
  • Gather requirements for system enhancements and collaborate with development teams.
  • Develop and maintain technical artifacts and improve internal and external support materials.
  • Deliver monitoring tools to on-premise clients.
  • Occasional travel to client sites, potentially overseas.

Cloud Technical Operations will include:

  • Monitor cloud SaaS clients using company dashboards and alerts, responding to incidents.
  • Analyze warnings to anticipate problems.
  • Participate in provisioning infrastructure for new or existing clients.
  • Deploy and configure the company's platform and releases in cloud environments.
  • Configure monitoring tools and define acceptance criteria for new releases.
  • Develop repeatable processes and tools for migrating clients to cloud services.
  • Flexible working arrangements, including overnight or weekend on-call support.

The person:

A natural problem solver, you enjoy investigating, troubleshooting, and resolving issues. Ideally, your background includes software development or deployment, preferably in the financial or insurance sectors, with experience in:

  • Requirements gathering and documentation.
  • SaaS project delivery, including infrastructure, security, and compliance.
  • Diagnosing issues in complex distributed architectures, hybrid cloud, messaging, and APIs.
  • Implementing APIs and service-oriented architectures.
  • Services installation and configuration on Microsoft/Linux servers.
  • Data migration and system integration.
  • Security best practices and data protection.
  • Database systems like SQL Server and MongoDB.
  • Client workshops and training.
  • Implementing software in complex landscapes on-premise and SaaS.

Preferred skills/tools include:

  • REST APIs, WCF, JSON, SOAP.
  • PowerShell, IIS, Nginx.
  • DevOps in Cloud environments.
  • SQL scripting, message bus technologies, VMware, Virtual Apps, and Desktops.
