Salary: £44,000 - £48,000 (Public Sector)

The Opportunity

We’re working with a respected public-sector organisation seeking an experienced Data Protection Officer (DPO) to lead and strengthen their data protection and information governance framework.

The Role

This is a key role where you’ll act as the organisation’s trusted advisor on all data protection matters – providing practical, hands‑on guidance and ensuring compliance with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.

• Advise on data protection queries, information disclosure, and ICO‑related risks.
• Provide clear guidance on what information can and cannot be shared.
• Review and enhance existing data protection processes, identifying any gaps.
• Support with information governance, including access to records, complaints, and contractual data matters.
• Help shape the organisation’s understanding of data protection workload and ongoing support needs.
• Act as a key point of contact for regulators including the ICO.
• Deliver pragmatic, easily understood advice to managers and internal teams.
• Oversee Subject Access Requests (SARs) and data‑related complaints.
• Promote a strong culture of compliance, accountability, and good data practices.

About You

We’re looking for a confident, pragmatic specialist who can quickly assess current processes and provide hands‑on support.

• Experience as a Data Protection Officer or in a senior data protection / information governance role.
• Strong working knowledge of UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018.
• A recognised qualification such as CIPP/E, CIPM, GDPR Practitioner, or equivalent.
• Proven ability to advise senior stakeholders and influence decision‑making.
• Experience dealing with ICO enquiries, compliance issues, and data breaches.
• A practical, solutions‑focused approach – not just theoretical knowledge.
