Role Summary
Aubay UK is seeking a Network Engineer to be part of a European project for centralization and globalization of networks – to focus on managing, optimising, and securing campus network infrastructure in Liverpool, covering LAN, WiFi, and firewall environments. The successful candidate will ensure high availability, strong performance, and robust security while driving continuous improvement, innovation, and operational excellence across network services.
This is a remote position, requiring travel to the Liverpool site no more than once every two weeks, along with periodic travel to various locations across the EU. Some work outside of working hours (weekends & nights) will be required.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Proven experience managing LAN/WiFi network infrastructure & firewalls.
- Strong capability in network design, configuration, troubleshooting, & performance optimisation.
- Hands-on experience with Cisco Meraki switching, routing, segmentation, & WiFi.
- Familiarity with network monitoring & log-management tools such as Icinga, Grafana, & Kibana.
- Experience with security technologies including Palo Alto, Fortinet, & Zscaler ZIA/ZPA.
- Knowledge of DDI solutions (DNS, DHCP, IPAM), ideally EfficientIP.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-moving environment.
- Strong communication & interpersonal skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or a related field.
Desired Skills and Experience:
- Experience coordinating crisis or escalation meetings & technical taskforces.
- Exposure to automation & orchestration tools such as Ansible, Terraform, GitLab, & Semaphore.
- Ability to lead innovation initiatives & collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Understanding of industry standards & best practices in network security & compliance.
- Analytical mindset with a focus on continuous improvement & proactive problem-solving.
- Experience validating operational plans & managing infrastructure lifecycle activities.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Oversee & manage campus LAN/WiFi infrastructure to ensure high availability, scalability, & security.
- Design, deploy, & maintain LAN/WiFi networks & firewall solutions.
- Monitor & optimise network performance, ensuring seamless connectivity for users.
- Implement tools & strategies for real-time visibility into network performance.
- Analyse network data to identify improvement opportunities & implement optimisation measures.
- Collaborate with security teams to maintain strong network security & ensure compliance with standards.
- Conduct regular audits & assessments to identify & mitigate security risks.
- Follow up on action plans, backlogs, & operational deliverables.
- Coordinate crisis & escalation meetings when required.
- Validate operational plans & manage the lifecycle of LAN/WiFi/firewall infrastructure & solutions.
