Based at the Guildhall, Gainsborough (with opportunity for hybrid working).

Job Overview

The Head of Revenues and Benefits will lead and manage the Revenues and Benefits services, which encompass Council Tax, Business Rates, Housing Benefits and Council Tax support. The role involves ensuring efficient collection of local taxation, accurate assessment of benefit claims, timely recovery of arrears and overpayments, overseeing government returns, performance reporting and service improvement initiatives. The Head will work closely with the Director of Corporate Services (S151 Officer) to deliver high quality strategic and operational outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage Revenues and Benefits services.
  • Ensure efficient collection of local taxation.
  • Accurately assess benefit claims.
  • Timely recover arrears and overpayments.
  • Oversee government returns and performance reporting.
  • Lead service improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Corporate Services (S151 Officer) to deliver outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Experienced and motivated leader with a strong background in Revenues and Benefits.
  • Extensive technical knowledge of revenues and benefits.
  • Relevant professional qualification or extensive equivalent management experience.
  • Proven experience of managing teams, setting performance targets and delivering excellent results in a complex and busy environment.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to lead, manage and influence people.
