Project Controls Manager – Energy & Renewables

Main Purpose of the Role
A Project Controls Manager (PCM) will lead cross‑discipline teams of project controls professionals to deliver effective, consistent, assured and value‑adding project controls services to our nuclear client across diverse and complex programmes. In leading the team, they will be responsible for defining and delivering performance management cadences on complex projects/programmes along with all associated processes and reports. They are accountable for maintaining robust planning and project controls deliverables that provide our clients with accurate data to drive management decisions. They will play a key role in ensuring that client objectives are met and that projects are delivered to time and cost targets and the appropriate quality standards.
Key Accountabilities
- Lead cross‑discipline teams of project controls professionals to drive delivery of robust and effective project controls services and continuous improvement in project controls processes.
- Create efficiency and increase benefits to our nuclear client by defining and implementing project controls approaches across the project, programme and portfolio levels to allow effective decision making at all levels.
- Define and implement effective governance and assurance processes around project controls products.
- Adhere to NEC or FIDIC contract processes for management of project controls data and deliverables.
- Work with our client to develop relevant breakdown structures, support scope definitions, and in turn project controls products with the professionals and senior professionals in their team.
- Define scaled, tailored and integrated approaches for project controls and document these (for example in a Project Control System Definition).
- Define the scope through the identification and management of exclusions, assumptions, interfaces, and dependencies, and coordinate the scope’s decomposition.
- Work with the Integrated Project Team to establish a robust, accurate Performance Measurement Baseline and manage the change control process.
- Work with Project and Commercial Management to establish the Supplier Project Controls contract requirements, and then collaborate with suppliers to integrate and analyse their performance data.
- Ensure scope, cost, risk and schedule integration and alignment, and analyse performance data to provide delivery insight and facilitate delivery decisions.
- Train and coach client team and less experienced project team members on performance and reporting management processes and practices.
- Assure the quality, accuracy, and integrity of the Project Controls team’s output.
- Undertake line management activities including career development and performance management.
- Interact with Senior Management / Leadership members when delivering updates on Performance Management within a complex project/programme environment.
- Guide the team on appropriate use of systems and tools (such as Primavera P6, Power Bi, Excel) in relation to Performance Management, Analysis & Reporting.
- Work to make positive change happen by embracing challenges and opportunities for our client.
- Effectively connect and communicate with people to collaborate to deliver our best work.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Significant experience in the application of several Project Controls disciplines (Planning, Cost Estimation, Cost Management, Risk Management or Reporting) across multiple projects in one or more sectors throughout the entire Project lifecycle.
- Strong knowledge and proficiency with various project controls specific software packages and can coordinate and work with other teams using multidisciplinary knowledge.
- Strong communicator, able to demonstrate leadership behaviours with the ability to influence, manage, motivate, coach and develop a team by fostering a diverse and inclusive environment.
- Ability to obtain BPSS level security clearance.
- Member of a relevant professional body (e.g., Association for Project Management, Project Management Institute).
- Practical experience of integrating Project Controls disciplines and ability to assess the maturity of a team and ways of working.
- Experience in using Project Controls software such as Primavera P6, Active Risk Manager, Ecosys, etc.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to make risk‑based decisions where parameters are unclear and judgement is needed.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to mobilise, inspire and lead by example.
- Strong stakeholder management experience.
- Ability to navigate through conflict situations and defuse tension.
- Desire to work across all energy streams including conventional Oil & Gas, renewables, nuclear, carbon capture and Hydrogen production schemes.
- Responsible for maintaining robust planning and project controls deliverables and ensuring data‑driven decision making.
Requirements
- Present in the client office in Sizewell or Ipswich for 3 days per week.
